Ms Braverman’s voting record

As you can see from the screenshot from VoteClimate above (www.voteclimate.uk) , Ms Braverman’s voting record since 2019 is a matter of her acting completely contrary to her environmental claims.

  • Out of 19 possible votes that would have benefitted climate and environmental action since she became an MP in 2019, she has voted against action 16 times and abstained from voting 3 times.
  • In addition to her vote against the Amendment to stop water companies polluting our rivers and coastlines (see above), Ms Braverman has also voted in favour of continuing to allow fracking and the burning of peat in upland areas, of which both practices are devastating for the environment and particularly in increasing emissions that cause climate change.
  • On the 5th February 2020, Ms Braverman voted against an amendment calling on the government to:
  • develop and implement a plan to eliminate the substantial majority of transport emissions by 2030, to decarbonise the UK’s entire bus network, to invest in an electric vehicle charging network that can support the majority of vehicles on the UK’s roads by 2030, to cut bus and rail fares, to increase public transport patronage, to provide funding for cycling and walking, including investment in cycleways and grants for ebikes, to introduce a network of clean air zones to tackle illegal levels of air pollution, and to bring aviation emissions within the UK’s climate targets.”
  • This amendment was tabled in recognition of the fact that the UK’s transport emissions have actually increased since 2010 and emissions targets are not even close to being met.

All of this leads us to wonder whether Ms Braverman is taking her responsibilities to the environment, and to her constituents which depend on it, seriously enough.
